Quick Guide

Aftercare Following Your Polynucleotide or Skin Booster Treatment

Thank you for attending for your treatment today.

The following guidance applies to both polynucleotide treatments and skin booster treatments.

What to Expect

It is normal to experience some temporary effects following treatment, including:

  • Small bumps or raised areas at the injection sites
  • Mild redness, swelling or tenderness
  • Minor bruising
  • Mild itching or a feeling of tightness

These effects usually settle within 24 to 72 hours, although bruising may occasionally last longer.

Please note that one side of the face may heal more quickly than the other. Final assessment of your results is best performed at your review appointment.

During the First 24 Hours

Please avoid:

  • Touching, pressing, rubbing or massaging the treated area unnecessarily
  • Applying make-up for at least 12 hours (ideally until the following day)
  • Strenuous exercise
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Sleeping directly on the treated area where possible
  • If required, a cool compress may be applied gently to reduce swelling.

During the First 48 to 72 Hours

Please avoid excessive heat exposure, including:

  • Saunas
  • Steam rooms
  • Hot baths
  • Sunbeds
  • Prolonged or excessive sun exposure

Use a high-factor sunscreen (SPF 50+) if outdoors.

During the First 5 to 7 Days

  • Avoid active skincare products that may irritate the skin, including:
  • Retinol and retinoid products
  • Vitamin A preparations
  • AHAs and BHAs
  • Exfoliating acids or scrubs
  • Strong Vitamin C products if they cause irritation

Also avoid:

  • Facial massage
  • Gua sha or facial sculpting tools
  • Swimming pools and hot tubs where possible
  • If you are prone to cold sores (herpes simplex infections), please be aware that facial injections may occasionally trigger a recurrence.

During the First 1 to 2 Weeks

Avoid the following treatments until the skin has fully settled:

  • Chemical peels
  • Microneedling
  • Laser treatmets
  • IPL treatments
  • Radiofrequency treatments
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Facial waxing
  • Other facial aesthetic procedures unless advised otherwise

Medications and Supplements

Please continue all medications prescribed by your GP, hospital specialist or consultant unless otherwise advised.

Where possible, avoid supplements and medications that may increase bruising for several days after treatment, including:

  • Aspirin (unless medically prescribed)
  • Ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medication (unless medically prescribed)
  • Gingko biloba
  • Garlic supplements
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Cod liver oil
  • Vitamin A supplements
  • Vitamin E supplements
  • Other essential fatty acid supplements

If you are prescribed any medication, please do not stop it without medical advice.

Ongoing Skin Care

To optimise your results:

  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser
  • Keep your skin well hydrated
  • Apply SPF 50+ daily

Follow your usual gentle skincare routine once any redness or sensitivity has settled

Results from polynucleotide treatments develop gradually over the following weeks as collagen and tissue repair processes are stimulated.
